Chess position recall
A game position flashes up and then disappears. Rebuild it from memory, piece by piece, from a palette.
How it works
- Study the position while it is shown.
- When it vanishes, place pieces from the palette onto the board.
- Slide a placed piece to move it, or off the board to remove it, then press Check.
- Five positions per run.
What it trains
Masters remember positions by chunking pieces into familiar patterns. Practising recall on plausible game positions pushes you to see the structure, not individual pieces.
Questions
Can I get better at memorising positions?
Yes. Look for pawn structures and piece groupings rather than single pieces, and repeat often.
Are the positions random?
They come from plausible game play, which is easier to chunk than a random scatter of pieces.
