Threat Triage: spot the threat
Black just moved. Before you play your own move, find the piece of yours in the most danger.
How it works
- Watch Black's last move play out on the board.
- Tap your piece that is most at risk.
- Mate threats come first, then the most material lost.
- Each threat is played out so you see why it works.
What it trains
The first question in every game is "what does my opponent's move threaten?" This drill makes it a habit, and ranks threats the way a strong player does.
Questions
What should I check after my opponent moves?
What the moved piece attacks now, what it unblocked, and whether it threatens mate, in that order.
Why mate threats first?
A mate threat outranks any loss of material, so you must deal with it first.
