Bishop Relay: a bishop moves puzzle
Capture every pawn with a single bishop in as few diagonal moves as you can. Pawns block the way, and the black ones will capture the bishop if you land where they attack.
How it works
- Move the bishop along diagonals. Landing on a pawn captures it.
- Black pawns attack one step diagonally down the board. Land on a square they attack and the run ends.
- From Level 2, white pawns also stand in the way and block lines.
- Five positions per run. Your time is scored against the exact fewest-move answer.
What it trains
Bishops need planning because they stay on one colour and are stopped by any piece in the way. The drill rewards thinking several diagonals ahead and checking the safety of each landing square.
Questions
Is there a perfect score?
Yes. Each position has a computed fewest-moves answer, and you see how far over it you were.
Why did my run end early?
Black pawns capture one step diagonally down the board. If the bishop lands on a square a black pawn attacks, it is taken and the run ends. Level 1 shades those squares red.
